I grew up with animals around me.However,I am a cat lover,dogs come second.For a few years I had 3 budgies,that was a change that taught me about birds.I think birds come third for me.I had a Japanese koi for about 4 months-He wasn't wanted by the owner.A long time ago my best friend's dog bit me and that scared me (and left a tiny scar) so much that any dogs were a no.Thanks to a fun,harmless golden retriever named Frodo -that fear left a bit.I'm liking dogs more and more each day. My family back home now has three dogs and a parrot.
Unfortunately,having a pet in Korea is a challenge on it's own.Many times one comes across dogs that are seen tied up outside,without food or clean water and often in the proximity of their own mess.It breaks a person's heart to see that.My friend Karen is on a mission to help these animals in any way possible.She wrote this site, to show us how we can help those dogs.It's informative and has links to other organisations working hard at giving TLC to animals and getting the word out there.
Strange enough, a day after looking at this site,I went to the park and took another road to get there.There I saw a black medium sized dog tied with a short chain.I went up to him and he let me pat his head and when I touched his back he yelped as if in pain.I went back today,armed with a bottle of water and some snacks. His food bowl was empty and there was no water. Maybe it was the sight of food,but he was easier today.I think we'll be friends because he let me give him the attention that he needs.Unknown to me,while I was smoothing his dog hair(or is it fur),his owner was there looking and didn't seem to mind me playing with the dog.I found out the dog's name :Kamdoonghee-it means black little cute one.I have yet to find out the breed.For now I am doing my part for animals and it feels good.
